Cat Fishermen, Florida

from 50.00

The "cat fishermen" of Florida's 700-square-mile Lake Okeechobee spend many months each year living in lean-tos beside the water. During daylight hours, they bait dozens of lines and drop them into the second-largest body of fresh water in the United States.

At night, they settle back and wait for the lake's catfish to take the bait. The whiskered fish looks a bit strange but its flavorful meat is a favorite seafood choice in restaurants all across the country. But the life of a catfishing family isn't easy-  especially when the tropical rains of the Everglades turn their world into a sea of boiling mud.
